No-exam life insurance

Who gets fast-track underwriting, how the process works, and what happens if you do not qualify for it.

Many carriers now provide accelerated underwriting: within age and coverage limits, they make approval decisions based on your application answers, prescription records, driving history and other background data instead of ordering a paramedical exam. Decisions can arrive within a day. Each quote on this site tells you whether a particular product requires an exam, may require one, or has no exam needed.

What it changes

Accelerated underwriting does not skip underwriting itself. Your answers are checked against records, and if a policy was issued based on false information, the carrier can challenge it within two years of issue. The carrier may still request an exam or lab results if their background checks turn up questions; you can then decide whether to move forward.

Who tends to qualify

Most carriers offer accelerated paths to applicants under about 60 requesting coverage amounts within their set limits, with no serious health issues and no tobacco use in the past year or longer. Some carriers will also accept recent blood work from a routine doctor visit instead of a paramedical exam.

If an exam is needed, it typically takes 20 to 30 minutes and is done by a paramedical examiner at a location of your choice (home or office) in the San Bernardino area at no charge to you. For people in good health, exam results often lead to a better rate class, so it is not necessarily a bad outcome.
